Warren
Warren Assaly has come a long way since his debuts as a busboy in his hometown of Hawkesbury, Ontario. His culinary journey began at the age of 14 in a resto-bar in the area. He went from washing dishes to becoming a short-order cook before moving to Ottawa to attend college. He worked at the Keg Steakhouse for 6 years where he continued to move up from appetizer cook, to sauté cook, to broiler assistant and preparations cook to lead 1st grill cook. In 2006, he was chosen to train cooks for corporate and franchise Keg Steakhouses in both Ottawa and Montreal.
Always wanting to gain more knowledge and experience in the field, Warren has degrees in Business Administration and Hotel & Restaurant Management (both from the Algonquin College). He also recently graduated from the Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute, earning himself specialty diplomas in Basic, Intermediate and Superior cuisine.
With his family background, it’s easy to guess where Warren developed his passion for food! His grandmother Margery Assaly was a nutritionist for one of the Prime Ministers of Canada, his uncle owned the busiest hotel restaurant in Hawkesbury and his two grandfathers also owned and worked in restaurants. Warren says his mother is an amazing cook who has always outlined the importance of eating together as a family to share a meal.
Warren speaks both English and French and loves boating, snowmobiling and motocross racing, which he used to do more of when he was younger. He also enjoys outdoor sports such as tennis, golf, basketball, soccer, hockey and his all-time favorite: beach volleyball. When he has some free time, Warren loves spending time in the kitchen researching and developing food ideas and recipes.
Warren can now be seen on CityTV co-hosting what’s cooking with Jack Hourigan and Richard Cazeau.
Patricia
Patricia Chuey has assisted thousands of people of all ages through her consulting company, patriciachuey.com. She has helped them with weight loss, diabetes management, eating for sports performance and fitting healthy eating into a busy life. She has delivered over 2500 seminars and been interviewed and quoted in countless TV, newspaper and magazine articles. She has authored 5 books and contributed to several others.
From the time she entered the University of Saskatchewan to study nutrition, and later pursue a masters' degree in Physical Education, she knew her life's work would be to help healthy people stay healthy and ultimately to create peace of mind around what should be a relatively simple, yet gets incredibly confusing subject – food.
To further understand why people buy and eat what they do, she spent a few years managing the nutrition affairs for a large supermarket chain. She says the grocery environment was the perfect vantage point from which to watch the whole low carb trend unfold and ultimately crash.
As a volunteer mentor, she assists many students and dietitians in their career pursuits.
She is passionate about healthy living and believes that it can and should be very simple. She is a mom and in her free time enjoys creative ventures in the kitchen, running and taking in the natural beauty of Canada.
